*Glory's Triumph*
Horse: Dreaming Of Glory
Rider: Chloe Paisley
The sun was rising, but the air was cold. Chloe arrived at DRS. She had a cup of coffee in her hand. Her phone vibrated. It was a 'Good morning Beautiful' text from her boyfriend. It made her smile. She had been up for a few hours now, not able to sleep. She had so many things on her mind. Am I pregnant? That was her biggest question. Her thoughts swirled in her head. She would be devastated if she was. She knew she wasn't ready, but she, also, knew all children were blessings. She hadn't told Lucy, yet.
Lucy was in the barn when Chloe entered. She was grooming Glory, DRS' newest resident. He was in top form. He hadn't raced since July. So, he was fresh and ready for the track. His muscles were a little stiff when he had gotten off the trailer the night before. It had been a late night for Lucy. She spent the nightly hours rubbing down his legs. She didn't want him to cramp at all. She entered him, last minute, into the Indiana Derby. She would see how he would fair and maybe, just maybe, he would be a strong Triple Crown contender.
"Sorry I'm late. I overslept. I seem to never hear my alarm." Chloe said. Lucy smiled at her. "It's alright. I didn't get much sleep. Glory arrived late. He wasn't in the best condition when he got off that truck. I've been with him overnight and all morning. He's in much better condition, now. He's in top form. He is ready for anything." She said. "Well, I wouldn't miss this ride. I know it's going to be super busy this next week. Have a lot of works to go through." Chloe added. "Yes. A workout a day, this coming week. That way they can all get in." Lucy said.
Chloe had helped get Glory tacked. His copper coat glimmered in the sunlight as Lucy gave Chloe a leg up and lead them to the dirt course. Chloe could tell he was relaxed and ready to back out onto the track. He was fresh and in the highest form he's ever been in. He was ready for anything. When she rode him out onto the track his aura seemed to change in an instant. He was flighty and free. He was headstrong and spirited, but he showed it in a more mellow way this morning. He was just extremely relaxed. He never fought the bit. He just pranced around the track.
When Chloe gave him the rein, he broke into a hefty gallop. They flew around that first turn. He was on fire. Adrenaline rushed through his veins as he bolted down the backstretch. He never felt this free in a long time. He had been yearning to be back on the track. He wanted to show them al what he was made of. His strides got longer as they neared the final turn. Heading into the stretch he shifted into another gear. Chloe never felt this much power in a horse. She couldn't believe he wasn't tired out, yet. He was so strong.
They headed into the stretch. This was when he exploded in a faster gear. He whisked himself down that stretch run. Chloe gave him all of the rein he needed, not wanting to hold back on the bit. He took it all and more. He pushed himself down the stretch and to the finish. He didn't want to stop. There was no stopping him. He was set on running for days. The finish neared and he zoomed by it. Chloe was amazed. SHe never felt a horse go that fast, ever.
She cooled him out and rode him over to Lucy. Her jaw dropped. "Oh my gosh. He was phenomenal." Chloe said. "Tell me about it. That was stunning. I've never seen a horse with that much energy and power. He looked like a speedy train going around that track." Lucy said. Both girls exchanged talk as they went back to the barns. Glory was something special. He would turn the tables on the track and get his name known.
