*Sizzling Dream*
Horse 1: Dreaming of Glory
Rider: Lucy McCummins
Horse 2: Sizzling Dawn
Rider: Connor Stewart
Everyone thought Lucy was crazy when she planned on putting her beloved 3 year old colt, Glory, against Grade One mare, Dawn. She didn't care. She did as she pleased. She was pleased with Glory's recent second place finish in the Blue Grass Stakes. He was in the best form. He was ready to be back on the track. She didn't want him to lose any momentum. She knew he was the best. He was dear to her just like Black Magic was.
Glory and Dawn matched strides as they jogged out onto the dirt track. Lucy and Connor were in the saddles. The two horses didn't seem to overpower each other. Both were similar in height and build. The weren't showing any aggression towards each other. They were relaxed and well rested. The riders sat quietly, letting the two jog along together. They were shoulder to shoulder.
Lucy was the one that got Glory into a gallop, first. It was the start of the mile work. Dawn was right on his flank. As they rounded the first turn, she edged ahead by a half a length. Lucy held Glory back a little. She wanted the mare to tire and let him have his run in the stretch. Down the backstretch they went. Connor took a glance under his arm. He saw Lucy and Glory snug on the rail about a length and a half behind. He shook his head. He knew what Lucy was doing. He still gave Dawn all she needed and let her run on her own. The power was under him as they headed into the final turn.
At the top of the stretch, the red fireball came fast. He just about clipped heels with Dawn, but Lucy turned him to the outside and off he went. He forced his way past the mare and won triumphantly. He left her in the dust. Lucy gave him a pat. She truly loved the colt and didn't know what she would do without him. He held a special place in her heart.
