*Send Her Flying*
Horse: Barely A Sound
Rider: Chloe Paisley
Whisper was eagerly awaiting her chance to get out onto the track. It was the love of her life. She paced back and forth in her paddock when she saw Chloe walking up with her halter and lead in hand. She had settled wonderfully into her new home. She was previously introduced to Chloe upon her arrival. The two of them clicked right away. Now, it would be Chloe's first time aboard the big bay filly.
Chloe stopped at the gate. Whisper trotted up to her and nudged the halter over Chloe's shoulder. Chloe smiled. "I know, you're ready for it. You know what's going on this morning" she said as she unlatched the lock. The gate swung open. She was waiting for Whisper to try to bolt out the gate, but the filly just stood there. She nudged at the halter, again. "Goofy" was all Chloe could say. She slipped the halter over her head. To the barn they went. Groom, Darby, and Lucy were waiting for them.
Whisper practically trotted into the barn as she was looking off at some of the colts in a nearby paddock. You could hear their whinnies as Chloe got her on crossties. Lucy walked up to the gentle giant and ran her hand along her back. Her muscles rippled under the touch. The filly was very muscular. She wasn't a successful prospect, but she was in top form and ready to start her 2 year old season.
Darby worked quickly to get Whisper groomed and tacked. The filly was getting impatient. She wanted to get out onto the open track. "How far will I be taking her today?" Chloe asked Lucy. "Just a good 7 furlong breeze should do her good. I want to see how her sprinting speed is. I don't want to take a lot out of her. Want to save her up and not put any pressure on her. I have all the confidence in the world that she will do perfect" Lucy said. "I agree. She looks good already" Chloe said in response.
The sun was high in the sky, warming the bitter cold when Darby and Lucy lead them out to the dirt track. Chloe was seated high in the saddle. The filly was a tall mountain above the ground. She seemed to float as she walked. Her eyes brightened when she caught sight of the track. She bobbed sideways, trying to pry herself from Darby's hold on her bridle. "I don't think so, chick" the groom said.
Whisper calmed herself when they halted at the opening in the rail. Darby let go, giving full control to Chloe, who was perked and ready. She pressed her heels and gave a little rein. Whisper was up to a long-strided jog in no time. They danced around the track. Chloe was bringing her up to the 7 furlong marker, again. She could feel the filly straining, needing to run.
They were of like a flash, once Chloe let her go. Whisper's long strides carried them around that turn quickly. She had to be one of the fastest horses Chloe ever rode. She gave her all the rein she needed. Whisper was one to hang back and make a full-on stretch run, but this time. She wanted to show them what she was made of. She flew down the stretch. She pushed on with all her strength and she still had more left in her. They finished with a great time, one of the fastest for 7 furlongs, Lucy said when Chloe rod the big beauty up to her. It was a good run. Chloe knew she was ready for any race Lucy would place her in. She was ready for the challenge.
