*Youthful Dual*
Divine Demoiselle and Ariel Paisley
First Class and Chloe Paisley
Ariel and Chloe were ready to take two of the yearlings out. It would be a 12 furlong work on the turf. Ariel was riding the tall, graceful filly Diva and Chloe was aboard the much shorter colt, Chester. Chloe has gotten attached to him. She gave him a quick pat as they trotted onto the course. Soon Ariel and Diva were on their heels. The big filly towered over her smaller counterpart.
"Diva overpowers little Chez." Ariel said with a chuckle. "Her height is a disadvantage, especially when compared to this sweet boy. He will be overpowering her." Chloe replied. "We will just have to see." Ariel added. They urged the youngsters up to a canter. They came off disappointing finishes in The Wire's January Prospect race. Lucy recently entered them into the Proving True Prospect race, which would be held Week 4. She knew having a work and a week or so off would fair well for both of them.
It would be a pretty interesting work. Both horses were front runners. They both got physical if another horse tried to pass them. Lucy paired them into one work to see how they would react. She wanted to see if it'd set some fire off in them. She knew they both had some great potential to be some intimidating racehorses on the tracks. She had all the confidence in the world that they would be successful their prospect seasons.
The warm-up went well. Lucy had a starting gate set up in the middle of the course at the 12 furlong marker. She knew it'd be better to get them started off then, just letting the riders get them going. Many things could go wrong with that. Spur and Darby were there to lead Diva and Chester into the gate. Chester was first. He went in like a pro, with much convincing from Chloe. She smiled at her handy work. They waited quietly for Diva and Ariel to be moved in.
Diva balked badly, causing Ariel to jump off quickly. Spur had a hold of her bridle. He pulled a handkerchief out from his pocket to put over her eyes. The young filly went into the gate cautiously. Ariel climbed up and got mounted again. Diva settled with the soft touch of Ariel's hand running over her neck. "Easy beautiful." she said in a calm voice. The filly calmed down considerably. It was time for the gates to open, which always seemed like the longest wait, ever.
When they flew open with a loud clank, sending the bell to go off, both yearlings flew from that gate. They dashed ahead, side by side. The shorter horse got the advantage. Chester edged out Diva. He settled on the rail as they went into the first turn. Diva was right at his flank. Ariel was holding her back just a bit, letting Chester get his run out to where he would tire. Down the backstretch they flew. It looked like Chester was going twice as fast as the bigger filly. He was a rocket going down the track.
The final turn came quickly. Chester seemed to not lose an edge as Diva inched closer to his shoulder, just about pinning him close to the rail. Ariel eased her wide, a little bit, as they made their way into the stretch. Chester jumped into another gear, getting almost two lengths ahead. That didn't keep Diva back for long. She was soon on his heels, again. She nudged passed him by a nose at the wire.
Ariel and Chloe gave each other a high five as they pulled the horses up. They were laughing and making jokes. Lucy was pleased with the Youthful Dual. She would have dual workouts more often.
