*First Time for Jazzy*
Horse: All That Jazz
Rider: Lucy McCummins
Lucy wanted the chance to take the first ride on All That Jazz. She met up with Jazzy's assigned jockey, Connor, and groom, Spur, one cloudy and misty morning. She was excited and anxious to get in the saddle. Connor would be there since Jazzy had grown a bond with him. He couldn't wait to get her into a race. She knew she would flourish on the track. Jazzy was an unpredictable filly. She would make it to the top in no time.
The moment Jazzy stepped out onto the dirt course, Lucy knew she was something special. The filly bounced and jumbled around. She was enjoying herself. She was happy to be on that track. She had the yearning to run. Blue blood ran through her veins. She had exceptional bloodlines. She was going to be a dominator on the track. She was jogging gracefully. Every muscle quivered beneath her skin with every stride. She was a piece of artwork. Lucy felt like she was floating on air. This was an incredible filly. One of the best. She was going to be a champion someday.
They had a starting gate set up in the middle of the track. Lucy wanted to see how she would break from it. Connor and Spur were there. Jazzy seemed anxious to see what was in front of her. Spur grabbed her bridle and started to lead her into an open chute. Once she realized what was happening, Jazzy backed away a little. Lucy ran a hand down the filly's silky neck. "It's okay, pretty girl. It's not going to hurt you." Jazzy let out a loud snort. Spur tried again. She went in like a dream. The sound of the gates closing behind her startled her, but she didn't jump or make a fuss.
Lucy sat tense. She was waiting for the gate to open. Jazzy stomped a hoof, anxious to get running. Then, it opened. Jazzy bounded out of the chute and dug into the ground, pulling herself to top speed. They were being followed by a dirt cloud. Lucy was impressed with how the filly took to the starting gate the first time around. She knocked that out of her thoughts and focused on the little black yearling she was riding. Jazzy was all out. She pounded down the track. She danced around the turn and blazed forward into the stretch.
Lucy flashed her whip, getting Jazzy's attention. Her head bobbed up, but her speed increased. Lucy put her whip away and hand rode the black beauty down the stretch. The wire came quickly. Jazzy had a great run. Lucy was impressed. It was a satisfying result. Connor and Spur were there when she got done cooling Jazzy out. They told her they looked like angels out on the track. Lucy was happy with their compliments. She was happy with Jazzy's run.
