*Immortal Power*
Horse: Immortal Flight
Rider: Chloe Paisley
He was huge, Chloe had to admit as Lucy lead Nico into the barn. He looked extremely intimidating. He gazed at her intently as she waited while Lucy and Darby got him groomed to perfection and tacked up. He stood over 17 hands high. He had some extremely great bloodlines. He would stand stud starting year 15. He was a recent occupant at DRS. Chloe got the nod to ride him. She couldn't wait to get on for the first time. She smiled as she caught him sticking his tongue out when his girth was tightened.
Lucy patted him on the neck. Her head reached his shoulder., just about. She turned to Chloe. "Are you ready?" she asked. Chloe smiled. "Never been as ready as I am, now." she answered. Lucy nodded. Darby lead Nico out of the barn. Then, stopped to wait for Chloe and Lucy. Lucy gave Chloe a leg up. Chloe felt like she was a mile from the ground. He was the tallest horse she'd ever ridden. She gathered the reins as they all headed to the turf course.
Nico had his head bowed close to Darby's shoulder. He walked gallantly. He looked fierce. They were entered in an upcoming race at The Wire. They would run in the Brilliant Finish Stakes. It was a field of four. Nico and Chloe had the outside post. The other three entrants were strong competitors. Lucy knew Nico was strong enough to take them on. He hadn't raced since May. It was a shame. A horse of his caliber should be running on a constant schedule. He was fresh and ready to get back out on the track. She knew he would do fairly well in the race. She was hoping he would make it to the top. There were no doubts.
The turf course was ahead of them. Nico lifted his head, ears shot forward. He knew what it was. He snorted loudly, trying to get away from Darby. He wanted to get out there. "Eight furlongs" Lucy said to Chloe. Chloe nodded in response and rode Nico onto the track. The grass was tender on his hooves. He did a little dance sideways as she carried him up to a jog. She tightened on the bit to settle him, but he couldn't help it. He lived for the track. He needed to be out there. It was the only thing he knew. He was ready for anything. He was a big powerhouse.
Chloe kept her eyes focused between his ears. She allowed him to kick out and whinny happily. She just smiled and kept hold on the reins. Nico soon settled as he warmed up. He obeyed her cues and held his excitement on the inside. He was ready to bolt into a fast gallop, but he waited for the command. The 8 furlong marker was approaching. Chloe settled closer to his neck. When the mark came, she gave command, and he was off like a bullet.
They thundered down that backstretch. He felt free. He waited so long to be back on the track. Finally it was his time. He dashed down that field. He flashed around the turn. Soon they were in the stretch. His long strides got longer, his speed faster, his heart tender. He pulled on with great strength. Chloe just was along for the ride. They flashed past the wire. A huge smile spread across her face. "You're so ready!" she said. She cooled him out and took him to the barns. He was ready for his run. He wouldn't disappoint.
