*He's Got Magic*
Horse: Black Magic
Rider: Connor Stewart
Houdini was Lucy's pride and joy. His bloodlines were some of the best known. He was certainly going to make a name for himself. He was successful as a prospect and was even trying to make it in as Prospect Colt of the Year. He won his first run out for his two year old season. He has had two weeks off since his win in Knickerbocker Stakes. It seemed to do him well.
Connor arrived early in the morning to take the colt out onto the turf. He would be shipped to the GHF barns later on in the morning. Lucy was going to work him there, but figured she might as well just work him on his home turf. He would have no distractions. She was highly pleased with the colt. He was a fierce competitor on the track. He would prove greatly as a two year old and on. She had built a strong bond with him. She would never let him go, no matter what.
Lucy and Spur were starting to tack the black colt up when Connor entered the barn. Houdini whinnied a welcome. Connor gave him a small pat on the shoulder. The colt nickered in response. Connor went into the tack room to get his helmet. When he came back out, Houdini was tacked and ready. Spur lead him out of the barn. Lucy hung back, clipboard in hand. She was extremely focused with all of her horses. Spur gave Connor a leg up when he came outside. Lucy and Spur lead them to the turf course.
Houdini pranced, swinging his hindquarters off to the side. He snorted and whinnied. He was fired up. Connor kept a firm grip on the reins, keeping the bit tight in Houdini's mouth. He knew how fiery the colt was. Houdini seemed to settle a little bit as the turf course was in their sights. Lucy was explaining what she wanted Connor to do. It would be a nice and steady one mile workout. Houdini was flawless on the track. He lived to be on it. He was fresh and fit. He had a couple weeks off. The colt high strung colt was ready to get back out there.
Connor brisk fully rode him through the opening and onto the turf course. They jogged along at a steady pace. Houdini bowed his head and let his muscles relax. He was nicely built like his sire. He was strong and determined. Connor kept a quiet hand on the reins. He let the colt relax and settle into a pace of his own. They continued along at a steady jog. The air was cool, crisp, and inviting. It didn't bother them none.
Connor got settled and ready for the mile marker. Houdini was ready, too. He was tense and set. Once Connor gave signal, he bolted forward. He was off like a runaway train, sprinting around the first turn. He was free. He felt energized and refreshed. He was ready for anything. He bounded out of the turn and into the backstretch. Connor gave him all the rein he needed. The colt ran on his own. He knew what he had to do. He stretched forth as they approached the final turn. He darted around the turn, not showing an ounce of tiredness.
The colt's strength never weakened as he pulled into the stretch. Connor was just along for the ride. He hand rode the colt all the way to the finish. They made their way down to the wire. Once they flashed by it, Connor felt accomplished. The colt was a megastar. He had high hopes for him. He knew he was a champion in the making.
