*Number One Stunner*
Horse: Odd Number Out
Rider: Chloe Paisley
Uno hadn't raced in a few weeks. He was highly anxious to get back out on the track. Chloe arrived early in the morning, just as the sun was peeking over the horizon. She was bundled up in her DRS hoodie and a windbreaker. She didn't like to wear much when she had workouts, no matter how cold it was outside. She could bear the cold just as much as she could bare the heat. She entered the barn and saw Lucy with a cup of coffee in her hand. Uno was on crossties and Darby was tacking him up.
Chloe smiled. She was glad DRS didn't go under. Lucy drastically reduced her stock. She only had five active racers, now. Also, there was a weanling foal and a yearling filly. The others were either sold off or still for sale in the GHF sale barn. The barns were pretty much empty. All of Lucy's seven horses were stabled in the same barn. The other barns stood empty until the sale was finalized. Chloe was glad Lucy came back. She would've been heartbroken if she wasn't able to ride anymore, knowing the other stables wouldn't take her in. She knew Lucy was going through a rough time, but she stood by her side through it all.
Lucy gave her a hug. "Glad you're here. Uno is ready to get out there. He's been stuck in the barn for too long." Lucy said. "Well, I can't wait to get out there. It feels like it's been forever." Chloe said. "I know. I really cut down on horses. I may take in some more from the sale but, to be honest, I have the main ones I wanted. I'm happy with who I have. I'm close with every single one." Chloe nodded in response. She knew Lucy was completely happy that she got to hold onto her prized babies. Every horse in that barn was one she had grown a strong bond with. She lost a couple who she was close with, but she was glad to still have some of her babies.
The sun had rose even more, bringing some warmth to the crisp air, as they headed out of the barn. Chloe was aboard the tall stallion. Uno snorted loudly, blowing hot smoke from his nostrils. He was looking striking. He was in top form. Lucy followed behind them as they made their way to the turf course. She was happy to be back to work.
Once on the track, Chloe settled Uno into a steady canter. He just flowed along at a dainty pace. It had been forever since he had been out on the track. He was ready to go further with his racing career. He was ready to become Grade One. He was an incredible horse. Chloe was thrilled to be his rider. They were edged out in their first race of the year. Chloe knew he would make it to number one in the next race. She knew just how good of a horse he was.
Uno was off like a flash when Chloe gave the command. He darted around the first turn. Chloe gave him all the rein he needed. He was a flash of lightning going down the backstretch. He was quite relaxed and content with his pace. He didn't lose his fire as he dashed around the final turn and into the stretch. "Come on boy!" Chloe called as she hand drove him forward on. Uno thrashed down the stretch. He ran like he was on fire. He was pulling harder as they neared the wire. Away they flew, past the wire, and on until she tugged him down to a trot. She gave him an affectionate pat on the rump. She was very satisfied.
