*She Has The Passion*
Horse: Passion Heart
Rider: Connor Stewart
The mare was fierce and aggressive as Spur tried to lead her out of the paddock. Connor looked on, admiring the black beauty. She nipped at Spur's arm. He raised a hand trying to scare her away from being so close to him. The new resident from Nature Blue Stables hadn't been settling in the best. She bit Spur earlier when he put her out to her paddock. She had stepped on Lucy's foot before sunup, when she walked into her stall to greet her. Lucy had been in the house ever since.
Chloe was in charge of doing the training for the day. She didn't mind. She rode a majority of the stable's 10 current racehorses. Her sister, Ariel, was cut down to just one mount due to her blossomed romance with Connor. Lucy hoped to get her off the horses completely, but kept her on, clouding all rumors that she was going to fire Ariel.
Chloe walked out of the barn and stood with Connor as Spur finally got the lead clipped to Ally's halter. The mare just about trampled him down as he lead her out of the paddock. There was a fresh bite wound in his arm. It was bleeding heavily. "Spur, you need to get that looked at. Here I will take her. You get your arm checked out." Chloe said. Spur shook his head and handed the lead to her. "This is the second bite of the day. I'm going to keep counting how many bites this demon gives me. I will have so many, I can probably start writing a book about it." The groom grumbled. He walked away mumbling under his breath.
Ally seemed to settle a little as Chloe lead her to the barn. Connor got on the mare's other side. He ran his hand down her neck and over her shoulder, feeling her muscles quiver under his touch. "It's a shame she's such a badass. I've seen her run. She is the bomb out there on that track. I'm glad Lu gave me the ride." He said. Chloe nodded. "Yes, she is a magnificent horse. Lu said she will probably race her even another year. She wants to get a good record on her so she can retire with a bang. She has to carefully pick studs to breed to her though. She is a menace, but runs like the wind. I can't wait till she can run on the track under the DRS silks." She said. Connor smiled in response.
They lead the diligent mare into the barn. She let out a loud whinny, alerting the other horses who were in the barn. A shrill whinny came from the other end of the barn. It was Uno. He was probably going to be the first stud she would be bred to. Nico would be the next. Lucy already had it all planned out. She stood calmly after they placed her on the crossties. She waited anxiously. She tried nipping at one of the chains, thinking it would break if she did so she would have a chance to run away.
Once tacked, Connor climbed onto her back and Chloe walked with them out to the turf course. The mare was flawless on the turf. She had the grace of a sprinter and the endurance of a long distance runner. She pranced along, bowing her head towards Chloe's shoulder. Chloe ran her hand down the front of Ally's face. She nickered in response. Chloe was surprised with how much Ally had calmed down, but she knew she was growing more anxious as they got closer to the turf.
Ally jogged onto that track. She flowed beautifully under Connor. He kept a strong hand as they jogged along the outside rail. She still had yet to do any crazy things. So, he relaxed in the saddle and let her do her thing. She hadn't run in over a month. So, she was fresh off a small layoff and ready to show them what she had. She sniffed at the air, nostrils flaring, as she took in the sights, sounds, and smell of her new surroundings. She relaxed just as much as Connor did.
He rode her across the gap, making a U-turn. He pointed her towards the inside rail and stepped it up to a canter. Ally seemed to bunch up underneath him. He could feel her power from within. She had a bunch of potential. She was a seasoned racehorse. Her four year old season would be her prime. She would most likely be running against the younger horses, but she would prevail this year. She most certainly had the passion for racing.
Once he gave the signal, she jumped into a fast gallop. They scampered around the first turn. She extended her stride and increased her speed as they flashed down the backstretch. She was a quick front runner. She could lead a long race wire to wire. She excelled at saving her energy till the end, even though she was much faster than other horses throughout the race. Connor could feel what she had. They reached the final turn and she scurried into the stretch.
He could feel her start to weaken. He flashed the whip by her eye and she responded automatically. It was like another horse escaped from deep within her soul. She sprinted down the stretch with a great speed. Chloe was jumping up and down at the rail with a thumbs up. It was an incredible run. They bounded past the wire and he pulled her up around the turn. She wanted to keep running. He patted her neck. "Great job, beautiful." Were the simple words he said.
