*Back On Track*
Horse: Gratis
Rider: Ariel Paisley
Grits had finally come back home to DRS, after Rivervalley Racing Inc. fell inactive. Lucy was glad to have him back, but had plans of putting him into another sale, which she would hold in the future. She met Ariel at the barn, early in the morning. Grits was resting peacefully in his stall. He awoke, quickly, once he heard the low voices and the opening of the barn door. It was only Lucy and Ariel. They would be getting him out onto the turf course. Hopefully, another race was in his sights.
Grits was quite stiff-legged as Ariel trotted him out onto the track. His stride extended beautifully as they went along. His muscles ached as he yearned for the freedom to run. It was a shame this big, handsome horse was just wasted away in a stall. He needed to be back out on the track and get into another race as soon as possible. He had a lot of potential and he wanted to show it.
Ariel sat quietly in the saddle, giving him the rein he needed. He relaxed quite a bit, taking in the cold air. He let out a snort when Ariel turned him around. Hugging the rail, he jumped into a canter. He grunted with each stride. Ariel could feel the ball of power underneath her. He had been waiting for this. It's been two months since his feet touched the track. He wanted to be out there, badly.
The reins were given and Grits dashed away into a full-on gallop. He rounded the first turn very quickly. Ariel kept a firm hold of him. He sprinted down the backstretch. He needed to get those legs moving. The big colt looked vibrant as they came into the final turn. Ariel flashed the whip, coming into the stretch, and he was off at an even more quicker pace.
Strides extended, quickest pace ever, Grits ran like he was on fire. He was a fearless runner. He ran his heart out as he bounded down to the wire. Ariel let him go. She knew it was what he wanted. He ran as strong as he could. Down to the finish, they came. Lucy was jumping at the rail. It was a fantastic run for the young colt. Ariel gave him a congratulate pat on the neck. He was very impressive.
