*Kiss The Sky*
Horse: Blazing Kiss
Rider: Spencer Thornton
Spencer was thrilled when Lucy gave her the ride on Blazing Kiss. The mare was one win away from Grade Two status. They had all the confidence in the world that she would reach that goal as soon as possible. Spencer was honored to have the opportunity to ride a champion. Kiss had never finished worse than fifth. She is coming off of an incredible three year old season. Like Ed, she hadn't raced since the end of September. She was full-on ready.
Spencer admired the beautiful bay as Lucy and Darby walked with them out of the barn. Lucy gave Spence a leg up and they made their way down to the turf course. "How does she feel? Lucy asked. Spencer looked down at her with a smile. "I'm a little nervous. I hope I'm ready for this." She said. "Don't worry, darling. That mare right there will show you the way. She will be the one to guide you." Darby said. Spencer smiled in response. She ran her fingers through Kiss' mane. The mare nickered softly. She was well-relaxed, unlike the young rider on her back. She would be a perfect teacher for the petite blonde.
Kiss trotted right through the gap and onto the turf course. She kept her head high and her nostrils flared. She sniffed at the air. Spencer leaned close to her neck. She clasped a clump of mane in her fist. She kept her eyes locked between Kiss's ears. The mare carried her around the track, gracefully. The turf was misted with morning dew. It didn't matter to Kiss. She stayed steady and never lost her footing. She knew what she was doing. She was well experienced. She had run in plenty of races. She knew how to handle anything.
Spencer eased up the grip on the bit. It was then that Kiss darted ahead in a fast gallop. She quickened her pace as they dashed into the turn. She ran like a bullet of a shotgun. She extended her strides as they made their way into the straight away. Spencer couldn't believe the power Kiss ensued. She couldn't believe she had all that power hidden inside her.
Kiss carried them down the stretch with increasing speed. She had all the strength of a champion. She would become Grade One in no time. They flew past the wire. Spencer patted her on the neck. "Amazing!" was all she could say. Kiss would get DRS on the track map as a top contending stable. There was no doubt about it.
