*Bloody Numbers*
Horse 1: Odd Number Out
Rider: Spencer Thornton
Horse 2: Engraved in Blood
Rider: Lucy McCummins
Connor, Bailey's regular rider, refused to ride in the dual workout against Durango's new jockey, Spencer. She didn't mind though. Lucy picked up the mount. The small gray filly shot ahead of the tall stallion as they jogged onto the turf course. Bailey was fired up. she kept her head low, but her eyes shot high. She wanted to be sure she caught a glimpse if Uno tried getting ahead of her. She was a little firecracker. Lucy ran her fingers through Bailey's mane. The filly snorted loudly and gave a small buck. She was trying to show off to the stallion. She wanted to get some competition going.
Spencer urged Uno up to a brisk canter. His stride extended beautifully. He was on the filly's tail as they rounded a turn. Bailey could sense there was an intimidator. She strolled into a faster stride. She changed gears with ease. "Now!" Lucy called to Spencer. Off they went. Bailey dashed ahead, not wanting anything to stand in her way. She was determined to remain on top.
Uno wanted to give the filly a run for her money. They headed into the final turn. Bailey had an easy lead. It wouldn't last. Uno was barging down her door. Spencer had him at an excellent pace. He was on the filly's flank as they headed into the stretch. Lucy used the whip and made Bailey accelerate. She eased ahead just a little. Uno was just a bit stronger than the smaller horse.
Down the stretch Uno eagerly passed Bailey at blinding speed. He pushed on down the straight away. He pulled away from her and edged on some more. Down to the wire, he flew. He passed it encouragingly. Spencer gave him a fair pat. He was an impressive horse with killer speed. He was fantastic. Bailey was a great horse, too. Uno was just too strong of competition for her. She was unable to hold on to the end.
