*The Girl Has Class*
Horse: Daddy's Overdraft
Rider: Ariel Paisley
Cobby's gray coat glistened in the sunlight. She was tacked and fully ready to head to the turf course. Ariel loved watching her. Cob got distracted over everything. She was coming off a win in the End of Year Juvenile Turf back on December Week 3. She was a champion in the making. Lucy knew she would become Grade One in no time. Her record was impressive, finishing no worse than second place. Lucy assigned Ariel as her rider, knowing she could handle the filly the best.
Ariel felt at home when she was eased up into the saddle. Lucy walked with them down to the turf course. "Cob flows wonderfully on the track. You will notice how perfect she is. She is like a Pegasus dancing along the surface. She is a great horse with a high energy and a will to please" she said as they reached the rail. She stayed there as Ariel rode Cobweb onto the course.
Cobweb pranced happily. She enjoyed being on the track. She got excited each time. Ariel was content with the happy go lucky horse. She stayed steady in the saddle. Cobweb kept at an extended jog. Her breath blew out in the air as they went around the track. The grass was cool but that didn't matter. The sun gave it some warmth. They got closer to the 10 mile marker. Ariel would soon let her go. She urged her up to a canter, keeping her steady with a light grip on the reins.
Cobweb bunched up beneath her. She was ready for a flawless run. The mark came and Ariel let her go. She went around like a flash. She poured her heart and soul into her run. She got a little ahead of herself. Ariel held her up a little, not wanting her to burn out near the end. She needed to keep her composure. They flew around the turn and into the stretch. Cobweb extended out and increased her speed with each stride. Ariel let her go and run the way she wanted to, the way she was born to. They thundered down the turf. Cobweb went all out. It was the fastest she ever went.
At the end Ariel pulled her up. She was afraid Cob would run her heart out. It probably wouldn't make a difference to her. All she wanted to do was please her rider. That's all she ever wanted to do just like she wanted to win. Ariel got her down to a trot. She ran her fingers through the filly's mane. "Gosh, you're a go getter. I've never felt a horse run so hard. Don't want you to hurt yourself. You will make your heart burst" she said to her. The filly tilted her ears back, hearing her words. She just dipped her head down and snorted. It was a good run for both of them. Such a good rider and a classy horse.
