*He's Number One*
Horse: Odd Number Out
Rider: Chloe Paisley
"Just give him a quick 7 furlongs. That will let him stretch his legs. He should do fairly well. He's one talented horse" Lucy said to Chloe about Uno. They were leading him to the track. "Sounds good to me. I'm glad you got him. You needed a horse who already made a good name for himself. He has a great home here" Chloe said as she gathered the reins. "Yes. I want this last year of his racing career to be a good one. I'm thrilled to be able to race a horse like him. I know he's going to do great this year" Lucy added.
Uno would be retired at the end of the coming season to stand stud for DRS for Year 15 and beyond. Lucy was excited for this year. She wanted to give him all the opportunities to race. It would be his final year on the track. Then, he would pass his talent down to his future offspring. She was lucky to have him. He would have a great future at DRS.
Lucy stayed at the rail while Chloe trotted Uno out onto the turf course. He was a beautiful sight with all the green grass around him. He trotted along awaiting her next command. "Okay, handsome, give me some speed" she said. He was up to a canter in less than a second. Chloe smiled in response, pleased with him. His speed improved as they came up to the furlong marker. Then, off they went.
Chloe just about lost her balance, not expecting the amount of power and speed the big gray had. He was all heart as he pounded around the turn. She gave him more rein as they eased into the stretch run. His speed increased even more. The wind stung her cheeks as they made their way down the stretch. It seemed Uno could run forever. Chloe let him run his way. He barely lost his breath. They finished the workout with a great time.
Chloe took him around at a trot to cool him out. His breathing wasn't even labored. He could've gone much further. Chloe took him over to where Lucy was. "Phenomenal" was all Lucy could say. Chloe dismounted. "You will have to give him more distance for his next work. He barely broke a sweat" she said. "Yes, the distances will increase as we go. I just wanted to make this first one a quick one. There will be plenty more to come".
